DCI Samantha Feyer is not quite 40 years old. An intelligent, intuitive, dedicated, police officer who will let nothing and no one stand in her way when she’s called upon to investigate that most serious of crimes… murder. Senior CID officer in the Yorkshire coastal resort of Landshaven, she refuses to bow or kowtow to the upper echelons of local society or the police service. Divorced, having reverted to maiden name after her ex-husband was jailed for life, she drills her team in the essential disciplines of honesty and integrity. ‘If the public cannot trust the police, who can they trust?’ She is involved in relationship with…
Wesley Drake. A year younger than Sam, Drake is a management and motivation consultant and counsellor, frequently called in by the police to counsel stressed officers and witnesses, and also to exercise his keen powers of observation when the police are questioning suspects. Often outspoken, sometimes to the point of rudeness, he is an inveterate puzzler, enjoying the most difficult of cryptic crosswords, which the police can sometimes use to their advantage. Tall and tough, he cannot be intimidated and will never back off from a confrontation. He and Sam established their relationship after he moved to Landshaven from his home town of Howley in West Yorkshire.
