The Anagramist (and the works scheduled for the Feyer & Drake series) are a bit of a departure for me in that they’re written under my real name, yet they’re serious works. Equally they’re not as violent or graphic as the Robert Devine works although there is some violence and strong language in them.

The book was born of my love of word puzzle, anagrams in particular. I enjoy pitting my wits against cryptic crossword compilers, even though I don’t always beat them.

Like so much of my work, it’s set in West Yorkshire, roughly in the area where I was born and raised, and rather than following the ‘police procedural’ meme they involve a civilian consultant, Wesley Drake, working alongside a disaffected, some would say damaged, senior police officer, DCI Samantha Feyer.

I’d like to claim that there’s an element of romance in them, but that would be disingenuous. I’m not the most romantic guy in the world. Having said that, I understand the complexities of relationships, and the books will follow the growing, occasionally rocky bond between Feyer & Drake.
